NETS OF HYPHAE
DIANA POLICARPO

Nets of Hyphae marks a continuation of Diana Policarpo’s research into the multi‑scalar global consequences of extraction. For the past two years, she has been researching the Ophiocordyceps sinensis parasitic fungus, found in the highlands of India and Nepal. The fungus has become a prized good, in particular in China, where it is currently being synthesised in the laboratory. The harvesting of the fungus affects local communities and ecologies, with global reverberations. Policarpo’s simultaneously investigative and sensorial exhibition, curated by Stefanie Hessler (Director of Kunsthall Trondheim), draws speculative parallels between a variety of phenomena, both parasitical and reciprocal, and humbly points to possibilities of earthly survival on a precarious planet.
