BLUE COLLECTORS

Did you know that some artists use blue as narrative to express their emotions and sensations? In this workshop, we will collect ideas about the colour blue and its meanings. We will think about the blue lighting in the exhibition and get to know through its history the works on view. Are the artworks blue? Is our body blue?

Talk with Jacopo Crivelli Visconti about the 34th Bienal de São Paulo

With the “poetics of the relationship” as one of its central concepts, the 34th Bienal of São Paulo — "Faz escuro mas eu canto" — adopts an innovative format, expanding in space and time. The next edition of the Biennale, in 2020, is marked by the meeting and mutual enhancement of curatorial projects and institutional action, and involves the holding of exhibitions and actions presented at the Biennale’s Pavilion in articulation with a network of more than 20 institutions in São Paulo.

The conversation will be chaired by the curator Marta Mestre and is part of a set of presentations of the project of the 34th Bienal de São Paulo in international institutions.

No âmbito da Feira do Livro do Porto, será este ano apresentado um ciclo dedicado à obra fílmica de Lynn Hershman Leeson. Revisiting the Learnning programme

An analysis of the Colonial Exhibitions, by Bambi Ceuppens

In May of this year, we received the anthropologist and curator Bambi Ceuppens for a conference that focused on the analysis of the Colonial Exhibitions in Porto, in 1934, and in Brussels, in 1958, focusing on the issue of human zoos and on the ethical implications of these events in contemporaneity.

The moment, presented in the auditorium of Biblioteca Municipald Almeida Garret, was part of the axis "Um Elefante no Palácio de Cristal", curated by Alexandra Balona, Melissa Rodrigues and Nuno Coelho with InterStruct Collective. Part of ping! – Programa de Incursão à Galeria.

Anna Zvyagintseva

Surface Encounters

Surface Encounters is the latest exhibition project of Galeria Municipal do Porto, which takes to the exterior of the building interventions by four artists from Ukraine who, between April and December 2022 will share their reality with the city through the images and impressions conveyed in each work.

The first piece exhibited is "the same hair", by artist Anna Zvyagintseva (1986, Dnipro, Ukraine), who has been working on themes such as the body, exploring the fragility of life through elusive intangible moments.

Surface Encounters will also feature contributions from artists Catherina Lisovenko and Alevtina Kakhidze and the 12345678910 Studio duo (Yevhenii Obraztsov and Anastasiia Omelych).

Each image will be graphically interpreted by the artist and designer Irina Pereira, a gesture that creates a liminal encounter zone, producing a space of sharing between distinct realities and experiences.

Walk with Ellen Lima: Oby - Gentes verdes

The Galeria Municipal do Porto is located in the gardens of Palácio de Cristal and has dedicated its programming to contemporary art, but also to an artistic practice and thought related to Botany.

On International Museum Day-which coincides with the International Fascination of Plants Day-we invite all to visit the gardens of the Palace through the eyes and voice of poet and indigenous activist Ellen Lima. The walk will encourage reflection on ancestral and contemporary temporality, but also to think about non-Western perspectives of understanding and relating to Nature.
Participation requires registration, free of charge, by email galeriamunicipal@agoraporto.pt.
