In this listening session, I will make audible the relationships between landscape, folklore, and labour through a selection of field recordings and songs sourced from the approximately 35,000 vinyl LPs held by the Fonoteca Municipal do Porto during a two-week research residency. Throughout this period, intuition, reading, hours of listening, and conversations with the Fonoteca’s archivist, Armando Sousa, guided me through this unique sound archive. The session will present the outcomes of my residency and offer insight into my working process, reflecting on how close listening to sound archives reveals historical recordings as vital tools for critically navigating our identity and the environments that surround us.
