During the June Gallery Talks session, we were joined by Portuguese dancer and choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira, in a talk moderated by Luísa Saraiva.
Marco da Silva Ferreira has built a career based on the fusion of urban dance, club culture, and contemporary dance.
Having won the 2026 Chanel Next Prize competition, he has established an internationally recognised body of work since 2013. Notable pieces include HU(R)MANO, BROTHER, Bisonte and CARCAÇA, among others. Exploring identity, community, cultural memory and collective transformation, his work has been presented at major European festivals and institutions. He is currently an associate artist at the Maison de la Danse in Lyon, having previously held residencies at the Teatro Municipal do Porto (2018–2019) and the Centre Chorégraphique National de Caen en Normandie (2019–2021).
Luísa Saraiva is a choreographer born in Porto who now divides her time between the city and Berlin. Her choreographic work explores the intersection of movement and musical composition, situated at the intersection of the language of the body and the voice. She has conducted extensive research into Portuguese oral heritage, adopting a critical stance on the relationship between tradition, gender, and power. In recent years, she has led workshops and participated in debates on mental health in dance. She is the co-director of the MULA festival alongside Cristina Planas Leitão.
