In a physical world, every space and place sounds and resounds, creating a sonic effect that results from the interaction between source and sound. Some of these sounds arise through human interaction with objects, while others are consciously reproduced through the acoustic transmission of the reciprocal interaction of magnetic fields. These fields are increasingly present in the environment due to the ongoing development of wireless technology, the emissions of electronic waste, and the constant connectivity that surrounds us. Focusing on the environmental, psychological, and social implications of electromagnetic waves, the work records an auditory dérive through both silent and noisy spaces in Nairobi. The constant flux of invisible, silent waves emitted by exposed cables, electronic waste sites, and inhabited homes is sequenced and fused into an unseen sonic impression that amplifies these sound waves. As Nature brings together field recordings and electromagnetic sounds from Nairobi, reflecting on the effects of these noises on the city’s inhabitants.
