For its second set of exhibitions in 2026, Galeria Municipal do Porto (GMP) invites two artists making their Portuguese debuts.
Augustas Serapinas presents Physical Culture: Porto Edition, a large-scale installation built in dialogue with the city of Porto. The project transforms the gallery into a hybrid space combining a gym and an art school. The counterweights of bodybuilding machines are replaced by replicas of sculptures from the collection at Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis, which are lifted by local gym-goers and athletes. Curated by João Laia.
Lydia Ourahmane presents For Voice, a work developed in collaboration with her sister Sarah Ourahmane. Evoking ideas around memory and intimacy, this new work features a sound composition written for two visually impaired singers. The score for the piece is written in braille and incorporated into the gallery walls, to be read by the two singers. When these are absent, a robotic audio system reproduces the composition as it follows the score around the gallery walls. Curated by Krist Gruijthuijsen.
