The seminar Inside and outside school, organised by Amanda Midori and Matilde Seabra, offers insights into the reflections of different generations influenced by Elvira Leite’s work, thoughts, and approach to the various educational contexts she was involved in throughout her long career. The aim of the day is to understand, through dialogue, the strength of her contribution to the development of individuals working in arts and education today, and to open up ways of rethinking our own current practices.
The meeting is divided into two big sessions. In the morning, Joaquim Azevedo and Milice Ribeiro dos Santos, who collaborated with Elvira Leite on education policy in Portugal, will give presentations, as will Maria João Vicente, a former student of Elvira Leite’s who is now an actress, playwright and teacher. In the afternoon, Sofia Victorino and Cat Martins will discuss their research into the relationship between decolonial thinking, contemporary art, cultural institutions and the history of arts education from childhood in Portugal. Salvador Cidrás and Vicente Blanco will then present the Escola Imaxinada project, which is based at the Faculty of Teacher Training in Lugo, Spain.
* Participation certified for teachers and arts educators by the Portuguese National Plan for the Arts (NPA).
