Laia Estruch: Whale Voices

Whale Voices is a 35-minute solo vocal performance that traces a sonic journey through vocal training designed to bring the human voice closer to the songs of whales. Exploring the relationship between body and voice, the work investigates forms of communication that approach the expressive world of non-human animals.

Conceiving the voice as an extension of the body—one capable of embodying questions of language, speech, gender, and social structures—the project continues an exploration of the emotional potential of the unaccompanied voice and the non-theatricalised body. Presented as a live experiment, it creates a space in which body and language are transformed into action through voice, sound, and gesture.
