Surface Encounters is the latest exhibition project of Galeria Municipal do Porto, which takes to the exterior of the building interventions by four artists from Ukraine who will share their reality with the city through the images and impressions conveyed in each work.

Catherina Lisovenko was one of the guest artists and is exhibiting her work ‘untitled’.

Catherina Lisovenko is an artist from Kyiv, Ukraine, where she lives and works. Her artistic language developed from the inheritance of the socialist-realist tradition and was later transformed into a process of active rethinking of its context. In her practice, she investigates representations of power and ideology, as well as the transition from the Soviet to the contemporary regime. Her work often includes images of victims, regardless of the theme it approaches, which can range from the dominance of the academic artistic traditions to the representation of violence, religious oppression or harassment. Her most recent work series respond to Russia’s open aggression against Ukraine, addressing forms of resistance, willpower and the pursuit of justice.

Catherina Lisovenko’s image was graphically interpreted by the artist and designer Irina Pereira, a gesture that created a liminal encounter zone, producing a space of sharing between distinct realities and experiences.
