Surface Encounters is the latest exhibition project of Galeria Municipal do Porto, which takes to the exterior of the building interventions by four artists from Ukraine who will share their reality with the city through the images and impressions conveyed in each work.

The work by 12345678910 Studio, a duo of young artists comprising Anastasiia Omelych and Yevhenii Obraztsov, who live and work in Kyiv, was one of those selected for this project.

Their practice is rooted in observing the strategies of control and privatisation of public space by government authorities in order to imagine possible ways of contestation in collaboration with civil society. Using unconventional urban furniture, they propose the use of public space as a social network of care and transformations brought about by its use.

12345678910 Studio’s image was graphically interpreted by the artist and designer Irina Pereira, a gesture that created a liminal encounter zone, producing a space of sharing between distinct realities and experiences.
