Commissions #1

Commissions is a new initiative by Galeria Municipal do Porto that supports the creation of original works. The first edition brings together five artists — Mauro Cerqueira, Joana Escoval, Sara Graça, Catarina Miranda and Mariya Nesvyetaylo.

These new creations stem from places of desire and experimentation within each artist’s practice. Catarina Miranda, a contemporary dance artist, brings choreographic movement into the gallery and presents an installation that reflects her stage creations. Mauro Cerqueira revisits drawing, exhibiting a series related to his latest film project. Sara Graça is venturing into the production of a film with a community of artists for the first time. Joana Escoval presents a sound and visual landscape inspired by a book-object. Mariya Nesvyetaylo has constructed a place of multisensory immersion for collective observation and introspection.

Bringing together different generations, languages, and contexts, Comissões offers an insight into the various forms that influence artistic creation and define the national scene.
