Ressonâncias de um Jardim

The process of conceptualising this workshop began with collecting organic materials, such as leaves, seeds and twigs, from the Crystal Palace Gardens. A selection of photographs from the Teófilo Rego archive were also collected; these capture moments in the history of the gardens in Porto, including dog shows and stalls at a wine fair.

The practical part of the workshop will take place at Casa da Imagem, an art and knowledge-sharing space where students will engage with experimental and ecological processes involving some of the collected plants.

The botanical collecting and scientific representation of plant and animal species will be replaced by a representation of nature that is less humanised and more lived-in and personal.

Casa da Imagem is an art and mediation space that promotes cross-disciplinary learning and museology, working towards equity and social justice. It is a project run by the Manuel Leão Foundation in Santo Ovídio, Gaia. Coordinators Inês Azevedo and Joana Mateus, along with other artists, mediators and researchers, organise exhibitions, carry out research and lead workshops. The Casa da Imagem focuses on the following areas: the use of digital technologies to represent and encourage critical engagement among young people on social media; images representing industry; the Teófilo Rego Photo-Commercial and Rocha Artes Gráficas archives; and creating images through ecological processes.
