Ensaios de uma Coleção

On 4 April, Galeria Municipal do Porto opened a new exhibition: Ensaios de uma Coleção – Novas Aquisições da Coleção Municipal de Arte. The exhibition project brought together the most recent works acquired under the Aquisições programme, which has boosted the contemporary art branch of the Municipal Art Collection since 2018. In total, works by 38 artists and collectives were presented.

This new set of pieces expanded the Collection’s repertoire, seeking to cover a greater multiplicity of artists and practices in a more inclusive and pluralistic manner. The independent selection committee comprised the artist Mauro Cerqueira, collector Pedro Álvares Ribeiro, and curator and art historian Pedro de Llano, who assessed the artistic, historical, and critical value of the presented works.

Ensaios de uma Coleção featured works by Ana Hatherly, António Manso Preto, AURA, Bruno Zhu, Carla Cruz & Ângelo Ferreira de Sousa, Carlos Mensil, Carolina Grilo Santos, Diana Policarpo & Odete, Janaína Wagner, Jiôn Kiim, João Pedro Trindade, José Almeida Pereira, Júlia Ventura, Kenny Berg, Ronaldo Rosas, Leonor Parda, Leticia Costelha, Maíra Mafra, Maria José Aguiar, Maria José Oliveira, Maria Miguel Rodrigues, Mariana Barrote, Miguel Leal, Paulo Pinto, Pedro Huet, Rigo 23/Programa Espacial Autónomo Intergaláctico, Rita de Almeida Leite, Rita Senra, Rodolfo Lopes, Ruca Bourbon (a.k.a. Doutor Urânio), S4RA, Sofia Arriscado, Thomas Szott, Vasco Araújo, Von Calhau! and Xavier Paes.
