Artistic Research and Creation Projects
Loom Collective is a collaborative artistic research project in contemporary dance, focusing on co-creation, sustainability and inclusion. Through hybrid artistic residencies, it promotes the exchange of knowledge and innovative practices amongst artists from different cultural and social backgrounds. The project aims to develop new languages, explore sustainable forms of artistic circulation and democratise access to knowledge, creating a space for critical reflection and experimentation in the field of contemporary dance.
Instável – Centro Coreográfico aims to support contemporary dance creators and performers from Porto and the Northern Region by creating opportunities and promoting better conditions for artistic activity. Working in the areas of artistic creation, training and support for creators, and audience research and development, Instável establishes itself as a vibrant and informal space, frequented by a wide range of creators and performers, functioning as an incubator for experimentation where encounters, work and learning are fostered, based on collaboration and encouragement. It was founded in 1999 by Ana Figueira, as part of the Centre for Choreographic Experimentation (NEC), and made a name for itself through the company’s productions: each year, a guest creator, a group of performers selected through auditions, a new work, a tour, and the natural fading of one production as another is born, in a renewed cycle of life. In 2012, with the move to the Teatro Campo Alegre, Instável expanded its activities, launching a programme of artistic residencies and work to support and encourage creators and performers. Support from the Porto Municipal Theatre and the Ministry of Culture has helped establish Instável as the Choreographic Centre for Porto and the Northern Region, a vibrant space that prioritises learning, experimentation and creation in dance.
