Galeria Municipal do Porto

Um Elefante no Palácio de Cristal

This publication is part of PING! Programa de Incursão à Galeria, and assembles the activities and textual contributions that resulted from the thematic axis Um Elefante no Palácio de Cristal, which focused on the investigation of the legacy of the Portuguese Colonial Exhibition of 1934, in the Gardens of Palácio de Cristal.

The programme, presented in 2021, was the result of an invitation by the Galeria Municipal do Porto to three curators and an artistic collective — Alexandra Balona, Melissa Rodrigues and Nuno Coelho with InterStruct Collective — proposing to revisit the event and expose its implications in contemporary times.

The project, now materialised in book form, presented sessions for the general public and for schools, which included debates, film screenings, workshops and pathways guided by researchers and artists.
