The Time(s) of Contemporaneity

The Time(s) of Contemporaneity results from the homonymous contemporary art reflection course, integrated in the second edition of the municipal programme entitled Colectivos Pláka.
The publication results from the courses held between 2018 and 2019, coordinated by Nuno Crespo, curator, art critic and researcher, and Claire Bishop, art historian and critic. The first course —The Time(s) of Contemporaneity— focused on the idea of time, implicit in the idea of contemporaneity, through a process of self-reflection on artistic theory and practice. The second course, entitled The Time(s) of Contemporaneity 2: Decolonizing Culture,” addressed the debate on the legacy of colonialism, which served as a thread to think about the past and rehearse new possibilities for the present.
Edited by Nuno Crespo, it gathers contributions from Guilherme Blanc, programme commissioner and editor, as well as from several important figures in different artistic fields who participated in the initiatives, namely Flávio Almada, Kader Attia, Tania Bruguera, Filipa César, Joana Gorjão Henriques, Isabel Lewis, Marinho de Pina, and Françoise Vergès.
