The Eureka! sessions are a micro-festival at Espaço Porta-Jazz, condensed into a single day and centred around a theme. They open their doors to the artistic community and the public, bringing them together through performances, workshops and talks, featuring prominent guests. The aim is to encourage reflection, debate, collaboration, mutual inspiration, links with academia and the sciences, and the flourishing of the arts, in an informal atmosphere that fosters socialising.

Founded in 2010 and active ever since, the Porta-Jazz Association is based at the current Espaço Porta-Jazz, the city’s only venue dedicated to improvised music, which features several acoustic pianos, including grand pianos. This is the tenth venue occupied by the Association and comprises an auditorium, two rehearsal rooms, a multidisciplinary gallery, an outdoor courtyard and garden, as well as an office where the board members and the executive production and communications team work on a daily basis. The various workspaces are fully equipped and are used daily by a community of around fifty musicians associated with Espaço Porta-Jazz, who find here a hub where they can come together with their peers to explore and develop their artistic projects through national and international collaborations. This is where the bulk of the Association’s annual programme takes place, comprising concerts, jam sessions and workshops, hosting international projects on tour, established national projects and those resulting from artistic residencies at Espaço Porta-Jazz.
